The Champions League is back! The groups are set, and now in just a couple of weeks, we will be back watching the best club competition in the world on Tuesdays and Wednesdays! This is the best time of year; we have so many matches to watch, this is why you take your lunch breaks later or take an early class in college because you don't want to miss these games. With all of these matches, there are tons of ways to make money, so we will give you some as we pick the five best bets for who will rise to the top and who will crash down to Europa League nothingness.
Straight Forecast - Group H
When it comes to extremely hard groups to call this is for sure one. We have the Champions of Europe, Real Madrid who own the UEFA's best defender, midfielder and forward. Obviously, we can get two things out of the way. Unless the unthinkable happens, Real Madrid will win this group and APOEL will finish last. So now it's the battle for second which is between Spurs and Dortmund. Obviously, since they played in the Europa League (Dortmund smashed them) a lot has changed. First off, I don't think that matters because Spurs played players like Tom Carroll in the first leg which is just asking to get beat. Now with Spurs' incredible defense, they should be able to stop Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as their second most important player Ousmane Dembéle is on the verge of leaving (UPDATE: He left). For Tottenham to get second place, they can't slip up against the team from Cyprus, and they NEED to win against Dortmund at home even though they will be without Dele Alli. Obviously, the Madrid matches will be an uphill battle for both teams but I think a strong defensive structure is the way to steal points from Real and Tottenham can do that better. It will be close, but this is how that group will end.
Real Madrid: First
Group F: Group Last Place Finish
Obviously, the final two in this group will go down to the Dutch club Feyenoord and the Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk. When it comes to team strength, the Dutch team has the edge as they have players like Jens Toornstra, Jean-Paul Boëtius and FIFA 17 legend Nicolai Jørgensen. The bad news for Feyenoord is that Ukraine has one factor they will never be able to have, and that's the shit show that is Ukraine. Even though the Eastern European countries are always tough to crack, talent will overcome as the Pot One club will slip down and finish last.
Feyenoord - Third
Donetsk - Fourth
Outright Winner - Group G
Yes, this group isn't the sexiest, it won't be on any of the "prime" channels, but this may go down as the closest group in the tournament. With the stellar striker, Timo Werner for Leipgiz and the amazing crowd in Turkey for Besiktas, anything can happen. For me though, Monaco and Porto will battle it out for the top of the group. Monaco had an incredible campaign last season in the Champions League as they were a Pot Four club and went all the way to the Semi-finals. I do think with losing Tiémoué Bakayoko they will be a lot more open at the back. In saying this, this group will come down to the matches between Monaco and Porto, and you expect the French team to be able to stop Vincent Aboubakar and the rest of Porto's average attack. It's going to be close, but Monaco will get it done.
Outright Winner - Group D
With one of the most highly anticipated matchups of all time in the Group Stage, we have Barcelona going up against the Italian giants Juventus as the Messi & co try to get payback for embarrassing them last year in the Champions League. Obviously, we need to start with the news that Barca have just signed Ousmane Dembélé from Dortmund. This will soften the blow of losing Neymar but it for sure isn't a like for like replacement as Dembele is still a raw and a weaker player (physically). Also, Juventus are so good defensively, and with their three center back formation, they are the Kryptonite for Barca as I see Juventus winning this group.
Straight Forcast - Group A
This group sadly seems like it will be a battle for the second spot as with how well Manchester United have looked and now even more with the resigning of free-agent and cult hero Zlatan Ibrahimović. So now the question is who will finish second? For me CSKA are done, they will come in last, even though Russia is always a hard place to play, I just don't think they have the skill level to compete away from home. Sadly for the neural, there will be no parody as Benfica are too good to slip down in this group as they have an inform striker in Jonas who is always in the conversation for the best striker in Portugal. I do think Benfica can take points from Manchester United at home, but with the massive factor that is Old Trafford, I just can't see anything but Manchester United winning this group with ease. Flat out, I guarantee United win this group, kill me if I'm wrong, it's free money.
Winner: Manchester United
