As we inch closer to the start of the NHL season and your respected Fantasy Drafts, I think it is time to look at every position and give you power rankings of who you should draft first. For our first power rankings, we will be looking at Top 5 NHL Goalies. Sit back and enjoy (and share with your friends)
5. Martin Jones - San Jose Sharks
NHL 2015-16 Stats: GP: 65, W: 37, L:23, SV%: 9.18, SO: 6
Projected 2016-17 Stats:: GP: 67, W:38, L:21, SV%: 9.17, SO: 6
Is Martin Jones the best goalie in the NHL? No, Is he in the top 5 skilled goalies in the NHL? No, Will he make mistakes? Yes. Even though I am saying this, so much of being a great fantasy goalie is about getting wins and having a decent save percentage. As we saw last year the team Martin Jones plays behind is a top NHL team that have a shutdown defense, due to this he won't be losing a lot of hockey games this year, but he might not be getting you many shutouts as other guys on this list.
4. Carey Price - Montreal Canadiens
NHL 2015-16 Stats: Only played 12 games; knee injury.
Projected 2016-17 Stats: GP: 60, W:37, L: 17, SV%: .926, SO: 7
Many people might put Carey Price higher but even though he played well in the World Cup of Hockey, over an 82 game season can he stay 100 percent? I think that could be a challenge. Obviously, he is a great goalie, but the Canadian media isn't talking enough about how bad his injury was. Proceed with caution.
3. Jonathan Quick - Los Angeles Kings
NHL 2015-16 Stats: GP: 68, W:40, L: 23, SV%: .918, SO: 5.
Projected 2016-17 Stats: GP: 65, W: 35, L: 21, SV%: .918, SO: 5.
Jonathon Quick had a tough World Cup of Hockey but let's be honest: That more has to do with how fucking bad John Tortorella is at coaching. With a top team, he will get many wins this year and also, he is a top-five goalie in the league at shot stopping which is why he will be getting more shutouts than his division rival Martin Jones.
2. Henrik Lundqvist - New York Rangers
NHL 2015-16 Stats: GP: 65, W: 35, L:21, SV%: .920, SO: 4
Projected 2016-17 Stats: GP: 65, W: 35, L:20, SV%: .922, SO: 5
Even though last year ended in bitter disappointment for Lundqvist and the Rangers as they were crushed by Penguins in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. I will tell you all right now, even with a sub-par defense the King of New York is back and will have a fantastic year and will be a candidate for the Vezina (Raining Hot takes up in here). The only reason he isn't number one is that I am a depressed Ranger fan and our defense isn't as good as the first goalies on this list. I expect big things for him and the Rangers this year.
1. Braden Holtby - Washington Capitals
NHL 2015-16 Stats: GP: 67, W: 48, L:9, SV%: .922, SO: 3
Projected 2016-17 Stats: GP: 67, W: 42, L:18, SV%: .918, SO: 5
Where do we even start with this guy, he is coming off a Vezina (best goalie) trophy and President Trophy (best regular season team) season with the Washing Capitals. Once again the most important things in fantasy are wins for goalies and with that stacked Washington Capitals team that's exactly what he will get this year. The Caps are most likely going to kill the Eastern Conference again which makes Holtby the best Fantasy goalie of 2016-17 (But God I hope it's Lundqvist).
Tomorrow we will have D-men! Once again thank you all for the continuous support for our blog and if you know anyone who would like our site tell them so we can increase the DST family.
