As the NHL is well and truly underway and the league (and even your league) is slowly taking shape, it's time to start looking for those ever so important bargain free agent picks ups to make sure you bring home the gold this season in fantasy. If you are like me, you have been dealing with little injuries/inconsistent players and need players like this, and the first place you should be looking are the New York Rangers.
The Rangers are the highest scoring team in the NHL and have some fantastic depth players that can/will be easy pickups in your league. In this blog, we will be looking at three Blueshirts that will be amazing picksup for the rest of the fantasy season.
Michael Grabner - Right Winger
2016/17 Stats: GP:16, G:10, A:3, +/-: 13, SHP:1, SOG: 32
Michael Grabner has been one of the best pickups of the offseason as he joined the New York Rangers and seems like a new man after a disappointing season with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Grabner has became a key player on Alain Vigneault's team. Even though Grabner plays only an average of 12:42 with how fluid and balanced the New York Rangers lines have been, he has constantly been getting opportunities and chances to keep up his incredible start to the season. It seems he has finally found the balance of finishing and speed, pick up before it's too late.
Jimmy Vesey - Left Winger
2016/17 Stats: GP:16, G:7, A:4, +/-: 6, PPP:3, GWG:2
Even though a player who is 50% owned doesn't necessarily seem like a bargain, Jimmy Vesey is that and more. I said at the start of the year in my Fantasy Hockey Rookie blog; Vesey was going to have a great year with the Rangers and become a top six forward and even to get some major power play time. With all of the hype coming into the season for Vesey, he has definitely not disappointed as he is second in goals for NHL rookies. With Kreider and now Buchnevich having some injury problems this will propel Vesey to have even more time on the ice than he already has had.
Pavel Buchnevich - Left Winger
2016/17 Stats: GP:10, G:4, A:4, +/-:4, PPP:3, SOG:18
There are many other Rangers who I could have picked, like Brady Skjei or even a Derek Stepan who is only owned by 38% of Fantasy Owners but the upside of Pavel Buchnevich is too high to pass up. Before I start I have to say, this is on the riskier side; the talent is clearly there, but of late he has been dealing with back spasms which make him day to day but with an injury like that it is very hard to give an exact timetable. Pavel Buchnevich has been on fire ever since scoring his first NHL against the Bruins as he has made himself a staple on the Rangers top two lines and even on the Power Play. Even though he is a dangerous player due to his injuries, with only seven percent owned, you will have the chance to wait until he is healthy before picking him up, but trust me, once he is healthy pick him up as fast as you can.
