After another night of NHL Parlay's destroyed by one team's lack of defensive structure, we are once again on a hunt for one more win in 2016. As always, we have three games that with stats, logic, and matchups should make the best parlay you can get for this Thursday Night.
New York Rangers vs Arizona Coyotes - (-165)
The Rangers and the Coyotes are on completely different sides of the coin. The Rangers seem to have struck a balance between youth and experience as they are third in the entire NHL with 49 points. The Coyotes are 29th in the league with 27 points. Even with the injures the Rangers have suffered their team stats are incredible, they are third in the NHL with an average of 3.3 goals a game and ninth in the NHL in goals against with 2.5 goals conceded. Which is even more incredible as they have been very open with benching their star goalie Henrik Lundqvist. The Rangers are also looking great at special teams as they are uncharacteristically 10th in the NHL with 20.2% on the power play and eighth in penalty kill. On the other hand, the Coyotes are utter garbage in all of these stats. The Yotes are 29th in both goals conceded, and goals scored. This doesn't help with having a bottom five power play and penalty kill. Sorry for the Coyote fans out there but I give you no hope of beating the Rangers.
Over/Under Prediction: Over
Columbus Blue Jackets vs Winnipeg Jets - (-125)
Some people may just look at the 13 game winning streak, the fact they are 1 point behind the Penguins for first place in the NHL with FOUR (yes four) games in hand but streak or not, the numbers alone show the advantage going to the Blue Jackets. Like the Rangers, Columbus is doing extremely well in all four major team statistics as they are second in both goals per game and goals against and even first in the NHL in power play percentage with 27.1%. Even though the Jets are extremely dangerous, that 28th ranked penalty kill with 77.3% is just too ugly to look away. If the Jets take penalties, they will pay big time.
Over/Under Prediction: Over
Buffalo Sabres vs Boston Bruins - (+115)
I go into this game with a lot more of a different approach than the other two. The other two were pretty far apart with stats and overall play, but these two teams are dangerously close. Both teams are in the bottom five of scoring in the NHL and the Bruins just edge them on Goals a game as the B's are 8th, and the Sabres are 11th. The big factor for me is special teams, even though the Sabre's have the worst penalty kill in the league they are going up against third worst power play in the league. Whereas it's quite the opposite the other way as the Bruins have a top-five penalty kill and the Sabre's are fourth in the NHL in Power Play percentage. I think this will be a close game, but there is a factor that if the Sabres can stop David Pastrňák (easier said than done), they will win. I won't lie; this one is risky, but my gut is telling me a Sabre's victory.
