After a couple of days off we are back doing our NHL picks, this is a special one because for the first time we will not be doing just Money Lines but also spreads. We have two games tonight that are sure to make you some big money this first week of 2017.
Colorado Avalanche vs Calgary Flames (-1.5): +140
The Calgary Flames go up against the sorry Avalanche in what is a game where the spread is your best friend. First off, last time these teams played the Flames won 6-3, and this was when the Avalanche were playing better than they were now as they sit at the bottom of the NHL. The Flames are eighth in the NHL in their last ten games, but the main factor is the advanced stats of the Avalanche. Most teams have issues either letting in goals or putting them in, but the Avalanche have BOTH. They are rock bottom in the NHL in both Goals Against and Goals For. They also are bottom five in the NHL in both special teams. Even though the Flames are better average in all the main statistics, this is more of how bad the Avalanche are.
Fact: The last seven Avalanche losses six of them ended in them losing to the "-1.5" spread.
New York Rangers vs Philadelphia Flyers: (-105)
The Rangers are coming off a rough night at the Garden as they lost 4-1 to the Sabres. Now they go up against the Flyers in the marquee game of Wednesday. The Rangers went to the Flyers this season as the only game played between the two teams and it ended 3-2 to the Rangers. Even though, the Rangers defense is a bit leaky they still are so much better with Goals Against than the Flyers as Philly is in the bottom five in the NHL. This will be high scoring for sure, but the Rangers will win on their defense.
