A couple of weeks ago, we did a blog about the three most underrated players in the Premier League this season. Now it's time to do the opposite, this season even though we have had some incredible performances this season we have been some players who have been a complete shadow of what they were last season or aren't living up to their hype.
Odion Ighalo (FW) - Watford F.C.
After coming off a year where Ighalo was one of the breakout players of the season as he tallied 15 goals and three assists. This season he has one goal, one assist the entire season, and they have now changed up their famous 3-5-2 formation with Deeney and Ighalo up front as they dropped the Nigerian to play youth players. Ighalo hasn't just been scoring goals but also has had a performance score of -14 this season which is one of the worst for players who have played over ten matches this season. Off the pitch he has been a bit of a loose canon as his manager Walter Mazzarri doesn't rate him anymore and with rumors, he might go to China, the Nigerian manager said if he went to China, he would be dropped from the national team. If you want to find some blame for Watford's poor season the first place you need to look is that Deeney and Ighalo combined have five goals ALL YEAR, it's just not good enough.
This sums up his season
Riyad Mahrez (M/FW) - Leicester City F.C.
Riyad Mahrez's season has been the perfect display of the entire Leicester's team this season, shit in the Premier League and very good in the Champions League. As we all know, Riyad Mahrez was nothing short of world class last season as he won the PFA Player of the Year. Now a year out, he has three goals, two assists, an average passing percentage of 76.6 and a very poor match rating of 6.79. The past two months especially have been very poor as he hasn't scored since November 26th in the Premier League. After the summer where Mahrez, was begging for a move away as he was talking about a dream move to Barcelona (which will obviously never happen) and seemed keen to move to Arsenal, his form is showing he is no where close to that level yet. Even though, it is still early in the season to change, but to be five points off the drop zone is a complete and utter embarrassment for not just Mahrez but Leicester. If he doesn't get back his form from last season, Leicester could get relegated, and Mahrez will be labeled as one of the best one-season wonders in the Premier League era.
Claudio Bravo (GK) - Manchester City F.C.
After all of the shit that went down this summer with Pep Guardiola and Joe Hart, for Bravo to be playing like this is not just unacceptable but also has made Pep look like a complete idiot. To add insult to injury, Joe Hart is having a good year in Italy as he is showing exactly what is the most important thing about being a goalkeeper which is to SAVE SHOTS. Yes, Bravo knows how to pass but why does that matter if he can't save a fucking shot. Bravo has conceded 42.6% of the shots he has faced this season which is the third worst in the Premier League this season. With the top six teams so close, having a good goalkeeper can be the difference between Champions League and the Europa League, and right now I wouldn't be so confident if I supported Manchester City.
