THANK THE LORD! Tottenham comes out of the Champions League draw with by far the easiest group in the competition. Even in the Champions League, we get a Europa League-ish group. But, let's try to stop hyperventilating and preview the group without bias (or at least try).
CSKA Moscow: Russian Premier League (Pot 1)
CSKA Moscow is coming off their 2015-16 Russian Premier League title win but even though they are champions, they are still by far the worst out of the Pot 1 clubs. This is the squad that has no expectation on them to do well. In saying this, Russia is known for two things: awful winters and terrible supporters which could be tough for any team to come in and get a result.
Notable Players: Igor Akinfeev (GK), Alan Dzagoev (M) and Lacina Traoré (F).
Bayer 04 Leverkusen: Bundesliga (Pot 2)
Bayer finished the 2015-16 Bundesliga campaign in third place behind Dortmund and Bayern Munich. They are known for their attacking flair and fantastic supporters. This is one squad no one wants to play; they have so many attacking players who can score at any moment and with a young manager in Roger Schmidt they are a team who can surprise a few in this year's Champions League.
Notable Players: Javier Hernández (F), Hakan Çalhanoğlu (M), Karim Bellarabi (M/F) and Bernd Leno (GK)
Tottenham Hotspur: Barclays Premier League (Pot 3)
Tottenham Hotspur are back in the Champions League! Tottenham comes into this season on the back of a fantastic third place finish. Tottenham is an exciting young squad that will be eager to make their stamp in all competitions they play in. The only thing that scares me about Spurs is their inexperience in the Champions League so they must look for Toby Alderweireld, Christian Eriksen, and Son Heung-min to help the youngsters like Dele Alli and Eric Dier who haven't played in the competition. To recap, if I were to bet on this group, I would have to make Tottenham favorites due to their amazing defense and constant scoring threat.
Notable Players: Harry Kane (F), Hugo Lloris (GK), Toby Alderweireld (D) and Christian Eriksen (M).
AS Monaco FC: France Ligue 1 (Pot 4)
Monaco goes into their Champions League campaign after coming in third in Ligue 1 and also coming off the back of a bad showing in the UEFA Europa League last year. Monaco has some flashy players like Radamel Falcao and João Moutinho but, to be honest; I wouldn't expect too much of this team as a lot of these players came to the club for the insane weekly wages and low taxes. I think this is a team who will either come in third or fourth in the group but if Falcao can finally find his form they could be a bit of danger for the other clubs in this group
Notable Players: Radamel Falcao (F), João Moutinho (M) and Bernardo Silva (M).
1. Tottenham Hotspur
2. Bayer 04 Leverkusen
3. CSKA (Europa League Bound)
